Myrath (which means Legacy) was formed in early 2001 under the name of XTAZY by guitarist Malek Ben Arbia, just 13 years old at the time, with two of his childhood friends Fahmi Chakroun (drums) and Oualid Issaoui (guitar).
The line up was shortly after completed by Zaher Ben Hamoudia (bass) and Tarek Idouani (vocals).

Myrath first started playing in local concerts a variety of songs of different styles of their favorite bands which goes from blues to heavy metal to death metal.

In 2003 Elyes Bouchoucha (keyboards and vocals) who just graduated from Tunis conservatory joined the band in replacements of Tarek Idouani while Oualid Issaoui (guitar) quit the band.
With this new line up Myrath got into progressive metal and for almost 2 years they played in several concerts exclusively songs of the progressive metal band Symphony X which was their favorite band of that time and still is.
After several years of playing music written by others, Myrath gained enough experience and playing skills to start writing their own. The choice of music they decided to write reflected their oriental origin and their western influence (a combination of progressive, oriental, heavy and melodic).

Novembers Doom is one of the earliest U.S. dark/death/doom metal metal bands that are still active today. The band is from Chicago, Illinois. They are currently signed to The End Records.

History

Formation and early history

Novembers Doom formed in 1989, but it was not until 1992 that Novembers Doom would receive some attention in the metal world. An early deal with Regress Records, of Italy, allowed Avantgarde Records to hear the band. This demo (Her Tears Drop) was heavy, combined with moods of darkness and despair. The two songs would lead to the release of the band’s full length debut CD, Amid Its Hallowed Mirth on Avant Garde and Nuclear Blast. Exploring and expanding, the band added female backing vocals and continued its thick, eerie brand of metal. A compilation track for Pavement Music soon followed. In 1997, Novembers Doom released the EP For Every Leaf That Falls. The album was well received, leading to favorable reviews and response worldwide. Novembers Doom has since released their second full length album Of Sculptured Ivy and Stone Flowers, with Martyr Music Group. This new offering had received rave review. Read more...

Black/Industrial/Dark Metal From Switzerland (Sion, Valais)

Samael are a long-running Swiss black metal band formed in 1987 in Sion, Switzerland.

Although much of their music from the mid-1990s onwards has incorporated electronic sounds which would best define their genre as industrial metal, they are an early 2nd Wave black metal band and an innovator for post-black metal styles.

Their first demos presented a slow, doomy style of thrash metal with raw vocals, similar to that of Celtic Frost. Some of the songs would be included on Worship Him (1991) and Blood Ritual (1992).

Around the time of Ceremony of Opposites (1994), the band started using industrial-styled song techniques, employed by the use of keyboards and (minimalist) acoustic percussion. By this time, they had also left French record label Osmose Productions and signed with Century Media Records.

Hailing from Athens, Attica, Greece, Septic Flesh was founded in 1990. Their sound was a Hellenic brand of death metal mixed with doom metal and gothic metal elements. The band has often been compared to other bands of a similar style, like Paradise Lost, Anathema, My Dying Bride or Nightfall. In 2003 the band disbanded but reunited in 2007 with a different line-up.

Since reuniting, they play a mix of death metal and neo-classical. This combination is often described as atmospheric death metal or symphonic death metal.

The Haunted is a Swedish heavy metal band, formed in 1996 in Gothenburg, Sweden. The original members were Patrik Jensen (also member of Witchery) (guitar), Jonas Björler (bass), Adrian Erlandsson (drums), Anders Björler (guitar), and Peter Dolving (vocals). Both of the Björler brothers and Erlandsson were members of seminal melodic death metal band At the Gates, a pioneering force in the Swedish death metal scene. All members (past and present) are from Gothenburg, Sweden, with the exception of Patrik Jensen, who is from Linköping, Sweden, Per Möller Jensen, who is from Denmark, and Marco Aro, who is from Finland.

Scar Symmetry is a melodic death metal band from Avesta, Sweden formed in 2004. In addition to the typical melodic death metal aesthetics (numerous melodies and harmonies in the guitars, growling vocals, etc.), they incorporate synthesised sounds into their music. Their lyrics are themed towards mysticism, philosophy, and inner struggles. They had been touring through North America with Dark Tranquillity, The Haunted and Into Eternity, and took part in a US/Canada tour with Katatonia, Insomnium, and Swallow the Sun in 2007.

The band’s third album “Holographic Universe” was released on June 20, 2008. Following the release, Scar Symmetry did not embark on tours and released a statement 11 September 2008, announcing that they had parted ways vocalist Christian Älvestam, due to touring conflicts and creative differences. On 6 October, they announced the replacements for Christian Älvestam: they will continue with two singers, Roberth Karlsson (growls) and Lars Palmqvist (clean vocals).

The opening track “Awake” is one which defines the band’s sound, with Jacobs saying, “we get more diverse, different keys, tempos and styles throughout, but that’s the song that defines what we sound,” while “Reflections” is another band favorite, thanks to its unforgettable melodies. Jacobs says that “Forsaken” is the song where “we stepped outside the box to show a different side of the band, with clean guitars.”

It appears as though the Mutiny Within story is just beginning and that the ins and outs of their formation lead to a happy ending, so to speak. “We dedicated our whole lives to this,” Jacobs said. “Two guys dropped their lives in England and didn’t know if it would work, since we weren’t even signed at the time, but it means so much to us and we had that dedication to do it.”

Certainly, Mutiny Within aren’t a traditional band, having used technology and the Internet to their benefit and thus forcing the band to work in different ways. “Most bands get in a van, go out, play, tour, tour, tour,” Jacobs said. “We’re at that chapter now. The focus for us was always just writing songs. That’s been our lives. We played 30 shows with Chris and then got signed. We made every song as special as the next. Each track has lots of time put into it. We were a band that aspired to get a deal and make records, so we made the focus should be of efforts be the songs.”

Mission accomplished on Mutiny Within: 13 songs that usher in a new generation of metal.
